This post is long overdue, but we've been busy both on the business side and... I've been off for some parental leave as well! 😉
Anyway, the summer is normally a quiet time and a good one to review what happened and plan for the fall. Let's start with our usual review of the latest developments on DatoCMS, as in the past few months we've released a lot of new features!
Enterprise features
We had a set of features that were well fitting our enterprise offering, hopefully making it more appealing.
I'm going to go over them in a bulleted list, but each of them are quite an achievement!
Translator role. You can now have a role that can only update a certain locale. This opens up the doors to translator specific roles. We have a full blog post to announce it.
Workflows. Big editorial teams have been requesting for more complex rules compared to the draft/published system that we have in place. So we delivered a fully customizable workflow system that lets you create different stages for your records together with a set of permissions that can be attached to the stages. Again, this deserves a full blog post rather than a short bullet!
Audit logs. The last big feature that we released for the enterprise plan lets you track all the changes in the schema and settings of your project, to have a clear history of what happened in your project. Of course, there's a blog post only for this as well.
Everything else
Together with the big features we managed to fit in a set of smaller ones that are improving the product for everyone, let's quickly go over those as well.
More control on publishing linked records. As we are very careful about our validations and maintaining record consistence, we've added a setting to let you decide what to do when publishing/unpublishing a record and its linked records. All the details in the product update.
A few improvements on webhooks. You can now enable/disable a webhook and use Mustache templates for the URL as well. We are also sending the current and the previous state of a record on a "update item" hook (soon in the docs).
Find duplicate assets. By exposing the MD5 of each asset, you can now prevent uploading duplicates, now also built in in our interface.
Navigate better through the records. In two ways actually, one by seeing the records with link pointing to the current one, and then by using the all-new Quick Search!
Lastly, you can now order records by one of your record's fields:
What's coming up next?
The next big feature that we are going to work on is about getting nested modular blocks. It's our most requested feature by far and the time is finally come! It should be with you before the next retrospective, so in the next quarter. As usual we'll add more little niceties that you can propose and upvote in our Community forum. Reach out!
Then we are working on a new Agency Partner Program, to get a better offer for agencies all around the globe. If you want to be involved in the early stages, please reach out to support@datocms.com, now it's the right time!
We are also starting to sponsor awesome podcasts and content creators in the Jamstack area. The first one is the great Compressed.fm hosted by Amy Dutton and James Q Quick, but many others will come in the near future.
