Today we are thrilled to announce the launch of Organizations: a powerful new feature that makes it easier — and more secure — to share ownership of projects with other team members.
What are Organizations?
In addition to the regular personal accounts, every DatoCMS user can now create multiple organizations. Simply put, organizations are separate containers of projects, that can be shared between multiple team members. Similar to what is possible on personal accounts, organizations can also purchase paid plans, and hold separate billing information.
Organizations change the way in which account ownership is defined, allowing more than one person to have access to the the essential functions of the account.
Need to give visibility of billing to different people? Check.
Need to manage multiple accounts without having to log-in or out of each every-time? Check.
Need to have more than one person in charge of the account? Check.
Organizations allow you to do all this, plus add an extra-layer of security, at no extra cost.
All the details about the organizations can be found in our documentation, but let's review the highlights here:
Multiple owners for the same organization
To maintain ownership continuity for your organization, you can have multiple members with owner permissions. This also ensures that email notifications from the system related to billing, or project transfer requests can reach multiple team members, improving collaboration within your team.
Viewer role for finance/administration
The Viewer role is also very useful for people on your team who deal with invoices/administration, so that they can download invoices and track costs, without inadvertently changing any data in the organization.
Try Organizations now!
To get started with Organizations, simply log in to your DatoCMS dashboard and click the "Create new organization" button. From there, you can create a new organization, invite members, and start sharing projects with them.
There's no limit on the number of organizations you can create, or be invited to.
Want to convert your personal account into an organization?
If you already have a paid personal account, and you'd like to transition to an organization, you can move all your data (projects and billing information) to a new organization in just one click — read the details in our docs:
What's coming next
We’re confident that Organizations will become a valuable tool for teams of any size, but this is only the initial release of this concept.
We anticipate that agencies using DatoCMS will soon need to manage/have access to several organizations — their own and their clients' — so we are already working on new features designed for them, such as additional roles for their developers, and the ability to invite an entire agency organization to collaborate on a specific client project.
We will soon be announcing a series of dates where we hope to discuss these and other possibilities with all our partners, so that all the main real-world use cases will be met and made simple and intuitive! 💪
Wrap up
We hope you enjoy using organizations, and can’t wait to see how it will help you manage and collaborate on your projects!
You can read all the details in our documentation page, and as always, if you have any questions or feedback, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Community forum.
